Balagurukulam

Every Sunday morning, about 45 children — ages 5 to 15, taught by 12 trained volunteer teachers across four age groups — walk into Hindu Centre and do something their parents often couldn't: learn Hinduism in a way that makes sense to someone growing up in Singapore. Not just the stories — the philosophy behind the stories. Not just the rituals — the reasons. Seventy per cent come back for a second semester.

The children come in asking "Why do we do this?" The teachers — all trained volunteers — take that question seriously. The curriculum is built around it: age-appropriate, rigorous, and designed for children who live in a multicultural society and need their tradition to hold up to honest scrutiny.
